Dear friend,
Today we released the results from the first-ever national poll on prison oversight. You can check out the full results here: https://famm.org/wp-content/uploads/FAMM-National-Survey-Key-Findings.pdf
What we learned is that an overwhelming 82% of the public agrees that states and the federal government should have a system of independent oversight for their prisons!
Wide majorities across political parties told us they think oversight is important to cut down on waste, fraud, and abuse in prisons; to make sure our elected leaders are aware of the problems that need to be fixed; and to make sure incarcerated people and correctional officers are kept safe. Even people without family or friends in prison agree that there are good reasons to have independent investigations and inspections.

FAMM has long believed that prisons need more transparency so that our incarcerated loved ones are safe and treated with dignity. We will be sharing these results with state and federal lawmakers across the country. We hope they recognize the broad bipartisan support for oversight and start introducing bills to make this overdue reform a reality.
Best,
Kevin Ring
President, FAMM
