Alarms are ringing, but world leaders have needlessly delayed the distribution of monkeypox vaccines, even after the World Health Organization declared the virus a public health emergency of international concern.

Monkeypox continues to spread globally, now infecting more than 25,000 individuals, and likely even more due to lack of testing access worldwide.

Stay informed

Monkeypox has been shrouded in misinformation and stigmatization, and met with an inadequate response by government leaders—much like other viral outbreaks before it.

It is vital to prevent not only the spread of the virus, but also the spread of this misinformation and stigma, which only further endangers marginalized groups.
