Dear NCRC members and allies,
The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) requires banks to make loans in the neighborhoods where they take deposits. It's fundamental to the well-being of poor people, and the Trump Administration just unveiled a proposal that will weaken the law and do real damage to working-class families and communities across the nation.
Here’s what our CEO Jesse Van Tol had to say about it.
CRA is a key piece of civil rights legislation. It’s what prevents banks from redlining and only lending in white and affluent communities. It helps communities of color push back against historical discrimination and to start to build generational wealth. It’s a battle axe in the fight for a just economy.
We’re not alone in our concern. Ten of the nation’s leading civil rights organizations have joined together to ring the alarm on the most damaging parts of the proposed changes. Read our shared statement here.
We need your help as we fight for the life and legacy of CRA. To learn more about CRA and how it has impacted YOUR community, visit our #TreasureCRA activist toolkit.
We also want you to be part of the most important national event for conversations on CRA and our fight for a just economy. That happens at the 2020 Just Economy Conference, April 27-29, in Washington, D.C. We’re in the last week of discounted early-bird registration, so don’t lose your spot:
