Congress has passed the Inflation Reduction Act—a landmark bill that provides historic investments to fight climate change, finally begins to rein in Big Pharma on prescription drug prices, expands Obamacare, reduces the deficit, and makes the rich and corporations pay more of their fair share in taxes.

Democrats were able to do all this–without a single Republican vote–by not giving up hope and by staying united. Thank you for staying in this fight, Jack.

House and Senate Republicans made it clear from the start that they had no interest in offering solutions, and only stood on the sidelines hoping to obstruct. They even shot down attempts in the bill to make insulin affordable.

Further, Democrats could have easily given up one of the many times that internal party negotiations broke down during this process. However, in the end, Democrats just kept trying and were able to bring together everyone in their razor-thin majority to pass the bill.

When Democrats passed the American Rescue Plan in 2021 to provide COVID relief, they also did so without a single Republican vote. However, that did not stop Republicans from then taking credit for federal dollars coming to their districts. We can expect the same here.

That's why it is so essential to remind folks that (a) the Inflation Reduction Act is a major accomplishment to fight climate change and expand health care and (b) it was done no thanks to any Republicans in Congress, who did nothing but sit on the sidelines, obstruct and naysay.
