Dear John,
There are positive signs that the U.S. and Iran have overcome challenges and are on the precipice of an agreement to restore the Iran nuclear deal. Iran submitted a response to an EU proposal to restore the agreement, indicating only minor issues remain to be finalized. Hopefully, they can be addressed quickly.
There are many reasons this agreement is important.
*
It
would
prevent
a
disastrous
war
between
the
U.S.
and
Iran
and
set
the
stage
for
more
diplomacy,
rather
than
violence

*
It
would
lift
sanctions
that
have
impoverished
millions
of
ordinary
Iranians

*
It
would
prevent
the
spread
of
nuclear
weapons,
which
in
turn
would
provide
material
benefits
to
the
U.S.
and
regional
security

We hope the people of Iran will reap the benefits of the accord and that the U.S. ensures sanctions relief. This should just be the beginning of U.S. diplomatic efforts to engage Iran and make diplomacy sustainable so that a Biden successor can’t easily tear it up.
The deal hasn’t been sealed yet and we will be monitoring closely. But, if the U.S. and Iran come to an agreement, it must still go through a 30-day review in Congress, where U.S. hardliners will attempt to torpedo it. At NIAC we are already working to ensure key lawmakers will support the accord . And in the weeks ahead, we will be calling on you as we mobilize Iranian Americans and allies across the country to build political support for peace and press Congress to seal the deal.
Thanks for your support and let’s get ready for the exciting work ahead.
