Friend,
Ten years ago today, the federal government began accepting the first Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) applications.
This came exactly 2 months after President Obama walked into the Rose Garden of the White House in June 2012 and announced the creation of the program. He promised that under DACA, immigrants who were brought into the United States as children, often referred to as “Dreamers” would be granted temporary permission to work legally and stay in the country without the fear of deportation. In the 10 years since, DACA has proven to be an incredibly popular and successful program both for the more than 800,000 Dreamers and the entire country.
Under DACA, 99% of recipients have graduated from high school and 85% are participating in the labor force, according to FWD.Us.
