Our unprecedented economic growth could take a big hit at the end of this month. That’s because student loan repayments are set to resume on Aug. 31 after being paused since the start of the pandemic. That means the 45 million Americans who hold student loans will have another bill to pay for the first time in nearly two and a half years – leaving them with less money to spend in their local economies.

It doesn’t have to be this way. President Biden has the power to cancel all student debt with the stroke of a pen. If he does, it will be a massive economic stimulus, because Americans will have more money in their pockets to spend at local restaurants, shops, and more – allowing these businesses to make more money and hire more workers, who will then spend more money in that same community. It’s a virtuous cycle that grows our economy from the middle out.

That’s why we’re calling on President Biden to use his executive power to cancel all student debt with no barriers, and we need you to join us by signing our petition today. Student loan forgiveness makes perfect economic sense. Unlike the Trump tax cuts, which handed $1.9 trillion to the wealthiest Americans and corporations, forgiving all $1.7 trillion of student loan debt would immediately stimulate the economy –  benefiting EVERYONE, not just the super-rich.

Think about it: If people didn’t have to write checks to pay down the exorbitant interest on a loan they incurred when they were 18 years old, they would have more money to put toward a house, new car tires, or even just going out to eat once a week. This is the kind of consumer spending that stimulates the economy and grows wealth for everyone. Without debt, many people could even start businesses and take chances that would create economic opportunities for others.

President Biden has an incredible opportunity to build the economy from the middle out and bottom up by canceling student loans. Rumor has it that he’s set to make a decision soon, but with time running out before loan repayments are set to begin again, we’re calling on him to make the right economic move by canceling all student debt immediately.
