I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ellen O'Connell as the Interim CEO of Farm Sanctuary.

Over the past 35 years, Ellen has led and consulted nonprofit organizations working in the development, poverty, energy access, climate change, and wildlife conservation sectors. Ellen is deeply dedicated to the values, philosophy, and approach that we stand for at Farm Sanctuary. Meeting people with kindness and treating all living beings with respect are central tenets of Ellen's work, both with underserved people and animals.

In 2014 while working on a project involving ivory trafficking out of the Congo, Ellen was recruited to be the Executive Director of Prince William's charity, Tusk USA, where she oversaw conservation projects in 20 African countries. In addition to protecting elephants and megafauna at risk of extinction due to poaching, Ellen spearheaded projects that mitigated habitat loss due to human population growth.

Ellen earned a B.A. in English from Georgetown University, a master's degree in Public
Administration from the Wagner School of Public Service at NYU, and a master's degree in Anthropology from the New School for Social Research.

We ask you to welcome Ellen into our Farm Sanctuary community as we embark on our search for a new permanent CEO who will lead us into the future. In Ellen's own words, "I am deeply committed to Farm Sanctuary's mission, and I look forward to working with you all and learning from a community that strives to create a world that ought to be."
