Last year, increased political instability threw Afghanistan into turmoil, threatening the rights and futures of millions of children – especially girls like Sharara*. And just two months ago, a devastating earthquake struck – making a bad situation even worse as it destroyed the homes and businesses of families that were already suffering.

When conflict broke out in their village, 10-year-old Sharara and her family were forced to flee their home. They rented a house in a nearby town, but were evicted due to their lack of ability to pay rent. The landlord offered to buy one of Sharara’s siblings to cover the rent, but her parents refused. Thanks to the support of this community, Save the Children provided Sharara’s family with cash transfers so they could buy food and clothes, and Sharara’s father said he felt like a father again.
