Pre-Filing of Legislation for 2020 Legislative Session

Pre-filing of legislation continues for the 2020 legislative session that begins on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. At this time there have been 265 bills and 24 various resolutions filed in the Senate. And, there have been 495 bills and 22 various resolutions filed in the House.

Your Missouri Right to Life Legislative Team continues our work with legislators on pro-life bills to file for the 2020 legislative session. We are reviewing all bills filed and will be giving updates in our weekly lifelines. Please read these updates.

Pro-Life Laws Before the Courts

Link - This week: the Missouri Supreme Court heard a challenge to the Missouri Legislature’s denial of state funds going to Planned Parenthood and the U.S. Supreme Court decided to let stand a lower court’s decision on Kentucky’s “Display and Describe” law that requires an abortionist to show a mother the ultrasound and describe her unborn child to her prior to the abortion.
Partisan Bill H.R. 3 Would Harm Americans and Hinder New Drug Development

Link - The “Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019” (H.R. 3) passed by the House of Representatives—on nearly a party-line vote of 230-192—would endanger patients by leading to a loss of anywhere between 100 to 400 new drugs in the U.S. over the next decade and reduce the average life expectancy of Americans by four months, according to the Council of Economic Advisors.
March for Life to Highlight Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act

Link - Jeanne Mancini, president of the group that sponsors the annual pro-life march in Washington each January, says it will work to draw the public’s attention to the proposed Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
Planned Parenthood Employee Admits She Tried to Facilitate Sale of Fetal Livers in Court Testimony

Link - A Planned Parenthood employee told a San Francisco court that she had planned to “move forward” with the sale of fetal livers at $750 each.

Link - Planned Parenthood announced Wednesday that it will move forward with a plan to open new sexual and reproductive health centers at 50 Los Angeles County high schools.
Mother of 10-month-old on life support refuses to give up but hospital warns of "more suffering"

Link - The family of a 10-month-old who's been on life support since she was born won a small legal victory in a heartbreaking battle to keep her alive. A judge in Texas ruled that Cook Children's Medical Center cannot disconnect Tinslee Lewis at least for another three weeks.

December 14 - St. Louis - The EMPTY MANGER VIGIL will begin at 10:00 am. in front of Planned Parenthood to remember those who will have an empty manger this Christmas.

December 15 - St. Louis - Naming & Commendation prayer service. Designed to meet the needs of families whose child died before birth, for any reason, whether due to miscarriage, accident, still birth, or abortion. All are welcome despite religious background or whether the loss was recent or long ago. 2 pm at St. Monica Parish in Creve Coeur.
