Hi Friend,
Today, millions of kids from across the state are going back to school. From watching my own mom prepare her classroom for the new year to seeing my own kids begin a new year of learning and growth, we Texans know that back to school season is special for families across our state.
But this year is different.
In the 48 hours after the tragedy at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, there were at least eleven credible threats of other school shootings throughout the state of Texas. My kids were already out of school at that point, and I remember the profound sense of relief I felt knowing they were somewhere safe.
A parent shouldn’t be nervous about sending their kids back to school because they’re afraid for their children’s safety -- but that’s exactly where I’m finding myself this year.
Despite the pleading from parents across the state and countless Democratic leaders calling on Greg Abbott to convene a special session, Texas Republicans have refused to take meaningful action to keep weapons of war out of our classrooms -- to make our schools a place for learning, not active shooter drills.

Texas Republicans have made it clear that their dirty deals with the NRA are more important than the lives lost in Uvalde. This November, we have a chance to elect folks who will stand up for the idea, shared by everyday Texans, that our kids' lives matter more than the reckless gun lobby.
Enough is enough.
