John, our country has the ability to support and nourish every child. But the Republican Party has turned access to healthy food into a controversial talking point. So right now, as struggling families prepare to send kids back to school, a life-changing universal, federally funded National School Lunch Program (NSLP) is expiring.

Republicans fought against renewing the policy because COVID-19 related school closures had ended. But they’ve conveniently ignored the ongoing financial impact that families are still facing. Millions of children suffered from food insecurity before the pandemic while solely relying on meals at school, and now, many are at risk of falling through the large gaps in our social safety net.

The answer to this problem should be easy, John: Do what’s best for children and families. But Republicans have proven that they can’t be trusted with that decision. So we MUST replace them – as many as we can – with Emerge women. 

We trust Emerge women to hear the needs of children and families and respond with decisiveness and compassion. Former teachers and community members are stepping up and running for school boards and state legislatures so the situation can be corrected. That’s why, as the new school year begins, we’ve set a mid-month goal to reach 250 new donors to help Emerge women run, win, and help save our schools. But we can’t hit this goal without your help.
