Dear John,
Threats to earned benefits haven’t taken the summer off. In fact, millions of older Americans are deeply concerned that their earned benefits could soon land on the chopping block. It’s no surprise when lawmakers are pounding the drum for radical changes to the benefits you’ve paid into your entire working life.
Incredibly, U.S. Senator Ron Johnson (WI) suggested that Social Security and Medicare be eliminated as mandatory programs and that they should become discretionary programs approved by Congress on an annual basis.
This summer we need to take a firm stand for Social Security and Medicare — benefits that over a lifetime are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to you and your family. Specifically, I need you to remind your congressional lawmakers that slashing or “reforming” earned benefits is NOT a plan voters like you support.
That’s why I urge you to sign our SUMMER CHALLENGE Petition to Congress today, addressed to your members of Congress, to protect and strengthen Social Security and Medicare. During this critical election season, we want to ensure they see that many of their constituents have signed onto this petition. The more petitions in their inbox, the more seriously they will take this issue!
Right now, the National Committee’s massive, nationwide SUMMER CHALLENGE is raising unprecedented awareness about the rights and needs of workers and retirees — and your signed and submitted petition is a key part of our campaign.
We’re aiming for at least 50,000 signatures to make lawmakers sit up and take notice. This summer, when so much is at stake, we cannot afford to be complacent! Please take action now to defend and improve your earned benefits!
Sincerely,
|
