The sweeping funding bill we just passed will fundamentally change our fight against climate change and will provide long-awaited relief to families everywhere.
The Inflation Reduction Act is the largest-ever federal investment in climate action. After decades of political gridlock, we finally have substantial progress in treating the climate crisis as the emergency it is.
A historic, economy-wide transition to clean energy is precisely what we need at this moment to both restore America’s position as a global leader on climate change and to alleviate economic pressures on our communities.
In addition to major clean energy tax credits and grants across industries, this package also establishes cost-saving benefits for individual Americans including consumer home energy rebates and tax credits for consumers purchasing electric vehicles. It also provides massive funding for the U.S. Postal Service to purchase zero-emission vehicles!
Importantly, this legislation earmarks funds specifically upholding environmental justice priorities to direct investments into disadvantaged and underrepresented communities.
Beyond its extensive climate provisions, the bill also invests in expanding health care subsidies and lowering prescription drug costs.
In short, John – this is a major win for climate activists, and for working families nationwide.
Our work is not over. It’s going to take sustained commitment from our grassroots teams to put this plan into action, and to continue building on its progress.
