John,
I have a quick, but very important, legislative update for you:
Back in 2019, my colleagues in the House and I fought for funding to clean up the sewage polluting the Tijuana River Valley. After relentless advocacy, we secured $300 million in funding as part of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement to address this crisis.
Right now, the legislation we need to pass to use that funding is being held up in the Senate -- and the pollution isn’t stopping. Just days ago, a massive sewage pipeline burst and forced the closure of multiple beaches in our area.
The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee needs to approve the transfer of this funding as soon as possible so we can clean up the Tijuana River Valley, and address the aging infrastructure that consistently causes polluted waters and shuttered beaches.
I just sent a letter to the chairman and ranking member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, urging them to allow the funding to move forward, but I need your help to amplify this message:
To give our letter as much force as possible, please add your name to this petition calling on the Senate to act and deliver funds to clean up the Tijuana River Valley.
It’s past time that Congress approved this funding. Residents of this region deserve a clean Tijuana River and safe, accessible beaches.
Thank you for standing with us,
Mike
