Friend, our sponsored bill is one step closer to becoming law! Last week, the Assembly Appropriations Committee voted to advance SB 260, the Climate Corporate Accountability Act. Next up: a full Assembly vote before the end of August. With 100 energy corporations responsible for 71% of all global industrial carbon emissions, no serious conversation about climate action can leave out corporate disclosures and reductions. SB 260 would require big corporations conducting business in California with over $1 billion in revenue to disclose their total carbon emissions in a way that is accessible and understandable to the public. The Assembly now has the opportunity to pass this historic climate legislation in the next 16 days, so we need to keep the pressure on. Will you give your Assemblymember a call to make sure they’ll be voting YES on SB 260? |

SB 260 would be a game-changer, friend. It would mark the nation’s first mandatory corporate greenhouse gas emissions disclosure requirement for the largest and most profitable U.S. corporations who have an outsized impact on the climate crisis. But that’s not the only climate bill that the Assembly and Senate advanced out of their respective Appropriations Committees last Thursday. Seven other priority climate bills will be receiving floor votes this month: - SB 1295: cleans up abandoned oil wells
- SB 1314: protects Californians from false climate solutions (call script here)
- AB 284: prioritizes nature-based carbon sequestration to tackle climate change
- AB 2201: Community Drinking Water Protection Act (call script here)
- AB 2316: makes community solar and storage affordable for low-income Californians (call script here)
- AB 2438: aligns transportation investments with climate goals
- AB 2550: protects the San Joaquin Valley from air pollution (call script here)
We’ve got our work cut out for us, but I’m confident it’s going to be a transformative month with some big climate wins — because we have this team of environmental warriors behind us making thousands of calls and emails to our legislators. I’ll be reaching out to you with updates on all these bills throughout the month, but for now, please give your Assemblymember a quick call to check that they are voting YES on SB 260. Let’s finish this month strong! |
