ADL Devastated by Attack on Kosher Jewish Supermarket in Jersey City

ADL CEO and National Director Jonathan Greenblatt issued the following statement regarding Tuesday’s anti-Semitic attack on a Kosher supermarket in Jersey City:

The Attorney General of New Jersey revealed today what we had grimly suspected: the two alleged shooters acted out of hatred for Jews and law enforcement. This attack on the Jewish community is nothing short of domestic terrorism.

Our community has been terrorized once again by violent anti-Semitism. From Pittsburgh to Poway, and now to Jersey City, the disease that is anti-Semitism has clearly spread to epidemic proportions. ADL Welcomes Executive Order Combating Anti-Semitism

ADL welcomed the Executive Order issued on December 11th indicating that the Trump Administration will interpret a key federal statute prohibiting discrimination in programs receiving federal financial assistance to encompass anti-Semitic conduct.

“In a climate of rising anti-Semitism, this Executive Order provides valuable guidance on anti-Semitism, giving law enforcement and campus officials an important additional tool to help identify and fight this pernicious hate. It also reaffirms protection of Jews under Title VI without infringing on First Amendment rights. These are all important steps forward," said ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.
