This is Brent on Sanford Bishop’s reelection team. I’m reaching out today to ask for your help in protecting our democracy.

In Georgia, Republicans have launched an all out assault on our democracy itself, and specifically on Congressman Bishop — a Black Congressman representing rural Georgia.

Republicans have never mounted a campaign anywhere near this aggressive against him — and it’s put the Democratic House majority in jeopardy.

FIRST: Republicans passed a shameful voter suppression bill designed to prevent poor, elderly, rural, and non-white Georgians from voting.

THEN: They gerrymandered Congressman Bishop’s district and started pouring more money than they ever have before into Georgia, furious after we embarrassed them so badly last cycle.

NOW: The DCCC named us a frontline Congressional race. FiveThirtyEight identified this district as the most competitive Congressional seat in Georgia. Election experts downgraded our chances of winning, and Republicans started pouring money into this district.

I’ll be honest with you: practically overnight, Republicans turned this from a safe seat into one of the most competitive in the country. And we’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

Because with Democrats’ House majority already holding on by a thread, if we lose this seat, Democrats will lose the House in 2022. That means no John Lewis Voting Rights Act, no more investments in an equitable economy, and no more progress for working and rural families.
