Friend,

The fate of American democracy will depend on two pivotal statewide races in Wisconsin in November.

If Gov. Tony Evers loses his reelection bid to Trump-endorsed businessman Tim Michels, there will likely be an attempt in the Republican-held state legislature to overturn the 2020 Presidential results by recalling Wisconsin’s electors. Unlike today, there would be no assurance that a Gov. Michels would block these efforts. Also, after the 2024 election, there would be no assurance that Michels would honor the outcome if the Republican candidate for President loses the popular vote in the state.

Wisconsin’s other marquee election — in which GOP Sen. Ron Johnson (who schemed to hand fake elector ballots to VP Mike Pence on Jan. 6) is seeking a third term — is a significant opportunity to protect the guardrails of democracy through Johnson’s defeat by Evers’ Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes.
The Trump rally for part-time Wisconsinite Tim Michels featured call-ins from Ultra-MAGA crackpots
Kari Lake and Mike Lindell.
In 2020, pro-democracy efforts in Wisconsin focused primarily on persuading Republican-leaning men to abandon Trump. In 2022, success will turn on appealing to Republican and Republican-leaning independent women, as well as younger voters around Madison, and Latino and African American voters in suburban Milwaukee counties.

What Can I Do to Help Wisconsin? Below you will find pointers to some meaningful actions with organizations in need of dedicated, democracy-loving volunteers like you — NOW.

In or Near Wisconsin

If you’re in or near Wisconsin, reach out
to WisDems.org to find out how to put your skills to work where they are needed most to protect democracy in The Badger State. Or sign up to be a poll observer.
As a volunteer with The Union, you’ll receive a national action email each week. Whether you live inside or outside the area for a particular race, there will always be actions for both situations.

We have less than three months until the midterm elections. We cannot relax for a minute. We are mobilizing our pro-democracy coalition across all 50 States. It will take all of us to ensure we have a democracy for ourselves and future generations of Americans.

Please reach out to one friend today, ask them to stand together with us, and get them to join The Union. And follow us on Twitter.

Together,

The Union

P.S. While the two big links above are the fastest way to get involved, if you’re interested in other Wisconsin actions coming up this week, be sure to check out some of the more important ones below. If you attend any of the events in this email, reply back and tell us how it went, or anything else you’d like to share.
