Friends,

One of my top priorities is making our communities safer.

I worked alongside fellow Democrats and President Biden to help state and local governments support public safety through the American Rescue Plan. I delivered funding for public safety resources in Albuquerque, Doña Ana County, and elsewhere through the last Omnibus Appropriations package. And I engaged early in the negotiations to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which implemented common-sense gun safety measures that will save lives.

But our work to address public safety in our communities and put an end to preventable gun violence is not over. President Biden’s Safer America Plan is a crucial investment in public safety and crime prevention. We’re also working in the Senate to get our appropriations bills for next year across the finish line — which will make huge investments in public safety across our state.

Here are just a few of the local public safety and homeland security projects that I’m working to get funding for:

- Public safety equipment that will help better respond to emergencies, investigate crime scenes, and prosecute violent criminals.

- Expansion of violence intervention and community safety programs.

- Legal support for Native American survivors of domestic violence.

- Funding for the Children’s Safehouse Forensic Interview Program, which provides trauma-informed forensic interviews of children, as well as adults with developmental disabilities, who are victims of abuse or witnesses of violent crime.

- Modernization of the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management's emergency operations center.

- Fire engines for an array of local fire departments.

- And more!

If you agree that we need to invest in sweeping public safety and crime prevention reforms, add your name next to mine:

Strong public safety measures help make our communities stronger. Thanks for making your voice heard on this critical issue.
