Dear AFSA Members,

Have a great school year!

Everything starts with the first day of school. It was true when we were children and it’s true today. That sense of excitement and trepidation we felt as kids isn’t that much different from what we feel today. Recalling my days as a student, teacher, vice principal, and principal, I share your excitement and want to send you my very best wishes.

As school leaders, you have always had a formidable workload. During the pandemic years, it has been crushing and you and your entire school community are still on the road to recovery. There are more educational and emotional needs to address than ever before, amidst the most heated political climate in recent history.

Please know that as an AFSA member, you are not alone. I urge you to take care of yourselves and contact your local union leaders if you believe they can assist you with expected and unexpected challenges.  Also, please take advantage of AFSA resources, including research, leadership training, and benefits. Be on the lookout for our upcoming training schedule for the fall.

The importance of what school leaders, both school-based and office-based, do for the students, staff members and communities stands out now more than ever. You are the most respected professionals in the United States and you have all my admiration and support.

Be well, stay well…

In solidarity,

AFSA President
