Celebrating 100 years of Woodthorpe Grange Park!
*It is 100 years since Woodthorpe Park was opened officially as a place for Nottingham residents to enjoy its peaceful walks and benefit from fresh air and open spaces. *
We have treasured Woodthorpe Park over the difficult lockdown periods, and we are grateful for the work of our dedicated staff team, but also the great team of volunteers who work to promote the park and make an important contribution to how lovely to looks today.
So it was great to celebrate this centenary, with staff, volunteers and lots of local people on the lawns in front of Woodthorpe Grange House. Lots of us will have memories made there over the years and it’s the work of our staff and volunteers that safeguards and nurtures our park for generations yet to come.

Working with wild.NG to cut out herbicides
*Nottingham City Council Sherwood councillors are working on a pilot with local community group wild.NG to trial the removal of herbicides from certain streets in Nottingham. *
*This will be in the Sherwood area and so far over 100 volunteers have registered. This will help contribute towards the delivery of Nottingham’s Carbon Neutral and Ecological and Emergency Action plans.*
* It is providing an opportunity for Sherwood to lead by example, with local residents asking to have their streets pesticide free and signing up to support wildlife and keep an eye on their streets. I*

school
Thanks to local schoolchildren for helping us to tackle fly-tipping!
Sherwood councillors asked Seely Primary school children to design some fly-tipping posters to ask people not to fly-tip, there were hundred entries and the final seven were picked and made into robust signs that have been placed in Sherwood fly-tipping hotspots to deter criminals and encourage people to report it. We think they look great!

jubilee
Celebrating the Queen's Jubilee
Sherwood had a great time getting together over the Jubilee long weekend. After the Forest celebrations and the Woodthorpe Park Centenary, it was great to have even more opportunities for friends and neighbours to get together at street parties.
The Beacon Lighting event at Woodthorpe Park saw hundreds of Sherwood families with picnics enjoying the evening as Paul Swift, representing Friends of Woodthorpe Park, lit the beacon.

Streets for People is making our community a better place to walk and cycle and improving safety
Nottingham City Council has approved £11million of improvements to make our neighbourhoods greener, safer, better places to get around.
In 2021, the council successfully bid as part of a competitive process for money from the Government’s Levelling Up fund to improve streets and local town centres, and make walking and cycling easier and safer.
The money will be used to make some exciting changes in the next two years, including here in Sherwood.
Work is underway on the traffic calming and sustainable drainage scheme for Haydn Road, tackling an area that has been troubled by speeding vehicles, whilst helping to alleviate some flood risk.
Making our streets safer for everyone is a key priority for us, and we have been working on a number of traffic schemes to do just that. We have been consulting with local residents and working with officers to progress schemes across the ward to make our streets better for walking and cycling, and to deter the blight of ‘rat-running’ cars.
Please get in touch if you have concerns about road safety in your area.
