Jubilee Celebrations in Clifton East ✨

*There were lots of opportunities to celebrate and commemorate the Platinum Jubilee, including the installation and lighting of the new beacon in Clifton Central/ Flower Park, and a huge family fun day on the Saturday with over 2000 people attending. *

As part of the family fun day, Cllr Watson created a time capsule with letters from local school children to their future selves which will be opened in 50 years time.

*Sue Whitehead who is the Morrison’s Community Champion was chosen to light the beacon for us as a way of recognising her ongoing contributions to the local community.*

As well as these events, local community groups held events, there were afternoon teas for residents in supported accommodation, and local group Step Out Stay Out hosted their “Jumpers for Goalposts” charity football tournament playing for the Lance Corporal Keiron Hill Clifton Cup, and in aid of SSAFA which went really well despite the weather.

Cleaning up Clifton Flower Park

*The Saturday Jubilee event included the very first duck race, which was made possible by the hard work of a small group of volunteers to clean the Nethergate stream which runs through the Flower Park.  *

*This included pulling lots of rubbish out and weeds have been cleared, which will continue to improve the flow of the stream and increase biodiversity in the area.*
