On the one hand, you have the bully who empowered all the other bullies, the OG of bullies in modern politics, the one who normalized reckless cruelty against others: Donald Trump.
On the other hand, DeSantis – a man who would have you forget that he graduated from Yale and Harvard Law – has chosen to model himself after Trump and appeal to the mean streak of bullies everywhere.
Take Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law that forbids discussion about sexuality or gender identity in schools. In championing this hurtful policy, DeSantis is punishing a generation of LGBTQ+ young people who are no longer allowed to be themselves with their friends and classmates.
But recently, DeSantis has upped the ante even more by suspending state attorney Andrew Warren simply because Warren said he would not prosecute people for violating Florida’s inhumane 15-week abortion ban, a law that does not even have exceptions for rape or incest.
Not only is DeSantis trying to bully as many people as he can; he’s punishing those who refuse to bully alongside him.
This has earned DeSantis a feature role in this Worst Behavior Watch email. And while Trump is undoubtedly one of the biggest bullies in modern American history, in 2022, Ron DeSantis may have him beat.
