WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Tours Local Defense Company Andrew visited Pioneer Industries in Farmingdale this week, a leading distributor of factor new military specific aftermarket products supporting the sustainment to the warfighter. He toured the facility, met with the Pioneer team, and discussed their contribution to defending America’s freedom. Companies like Pioneer show the innovation that Long Island businesses have to offer. CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Securing Delayed Tax Refund A 90 year old resident from Bay Shore reached out to Andrew's office in need of assistance with obtaining her 2018 tax refund, which totaled just under $8k. Her accountant tried to get in touch with the IRS on multiple occasions, but was given different instructions when successful in getting someone on the phone. Once our casework team reached out, the IRS was able to tell us that the refund was held due to a lack of forms completed which the constituent was unaware of. We sent her the proper paperwork to be completed and send back to the office, to then forward to the IRS to continue processing. In less than 2 months, the constituent received her 2018 return that she’s been waiting over 3 years for. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need for the federal government. If you need help dealing with a federal agency, contact our office and our team will get to work on your case. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Opposes Tax and Spend Reconciliation Bill This week Andrew voted against the deceptively named “Inflation Reduction Act” just like he voted against the reckless Build Back Better scheme. In a statement, explaining his vote he said, "We can’t tax and spend our way out of the economic crisis that Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi created. Two hundred and thirty economists agree that the so-called Inflation Reduction Act is expected to contribute to skyrocketing inflation and burden the American economy. This bill means $745 billion in new spending, including over $400 billion for the 'Green New Deal' and $80 billion in new funding for the IRS to hire 87,000 new agents to go after the middle class and small businesses. Aside from completely failing to reduce inflation, this bill fails to address the SALT deduction cap while raising taxes that will impact the middle class." Click here to read his full statement. Andrew Urges the Inclusion of Uterine Cancer as a WTCHP Covered Condition This week, Andrew joined his colleagues in sending a letter to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Program Administrator for the World Trade Center Health Program (WTCHP), urging expedience in making the final determination on adding uterine cancer to the list of covered conditions by the World Trade Center Health Program. The WTCHP provides medical treatment and monitoring to those affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks and covers a number of different types of cancers, but currently, does not include uterine cancer. Evidence provided by scientists and physicians from the Rutgers WTCHP Clinical Center of Excellence suggests a link between uterine cancer and dust from the World Trade Center. Thanks for reading!
