Dear Friends,

NRCAT advocates made history in New Jersey in 2019 as the Garden State became the first to enact fully comprehensive legislation severely limiting the use of solitary confinement in prisons, jails, and state and county immigrant detention centers. The New Jersey Campaign for Alternatives to Isolated Confinement, one of NRCAT's many state campaign partners, now turns its attention to ensuring that this landmark legislation is fully implemented in 2020.

People of faith are called to be faithful by defending each person's inherent dignity and humanity. NRCAT's interfaith members are Called to End Torture Together by faithfully working side by side with survivors of torture in U.S. prisons and jails. Together, survivors are taking the lead, alongside human and civil rights advocates, to organize campaigns in 11 additional states just like New Jersey, where legislation can and must replace the torture of long-term isolation with humane alternatives.

It is starting to look like history might be on our side.

I invite you to donate to support these efforts today. Please make a donation at [link removed] or send a check to the National Religious Campaign Against Torture; 110 Maryland Ave. NE, Suite 502; Washington, DC 20002.

As a part of NRCAT's year-end challenge grant your gift will be doubled dollar-for-dollar, amplifying your support for ending the torture of solitary confinement.

With gratitude and respect,

Johnny Perez
Director, U.S. Prisons Program
