John, Missouri has one of the strictest abortion laws in the country.
Under current state law, single cells are now considered babies. There are no exceptions for rape or incest, and doctors can even be convicted of a felony for providing abortion care. But the conservative extremists in the state legislature are just getting started. Next, even birth control could be on the chopping block – and some healthcare providers are already second-guessing the medicine they are practicing.
But it gets worse: Eric Schmitt, the very man who is enforcing this extreme abortion ban in Missouri – a man who is SUING the city of St. Louis for attempting to protect abortion access – is now trying to take his MAGA beliefs all the way to the U.S. Senate. And his independent counterpart, John Wood, is also pushing a dangerous anti-choice agenda.
John, the stakes could not be any more real or any higher for people here in Missouri and for Americans all across our country.
Especially now that top GOP leaders in the Senate are discussing plans to push a nationwide abortion ban, we simply cannot let Schmitt or Wood win. Democrats have to stand up for the right to abortion and birth control for EVERYONE. That means standing beside proudly pro-choice candidates like Trudy Busch Valentine.
