Together, we can fight to end the FBI's surveillance of Black activists online and off. Donate today to keep up the pressure in the new year!

Dear Friend,

Two years ago, the FBI created a new domestic terror threat label, "Black Identity Extremists," instructing law enforcement agencies nationwide on surveillance and response tactics for a group which didn't and doesn't exist. What it did though was put an even bigger target on Black activists who have historically been subject to violence and discrimination while attempting to advance racial justice — or just for being Black.

The seeds of today's movement for media justice were planted during the civil rights struggles of the 1960s, when the FBI covertly spied on another generation of Black organizers, like Ella Baker and Angela Davis. In 2019, as we continue to battle for racial, economic, and gender justice in a digital age, MediaJustice has seen how our communities are being directly impacted by the threat of FBI surveillance today and the white supremacist violence further fueled by the false "Black Identity Extremist" designation.

Meanwhile, in response to repeated requests, we have continually been denied clear information on the use of "BIE" and the FBI’s surveillance records. Instead, we learned from leaked documents this year that the Bureau has lied about the scope and scale of its programs targeting Black activists organizing for justice. So in March, we partnered with the ACLU to sue the FBI. We then brought a delegation of Black activists to D.C. to deliver thousands of your petition signatures to Congress and secured support for a subpoena and hearing on the FBI’s biased use of surveillance.

In 2020, we need your help to keep up the fight against the FBI's racist designations and attempts to suppress the work of Black activists. Will you donate $20 today? ([link removed])

MediaJustice and the MediaJustice Network will continue to #ProtectBlackDissent in the new year by partnering with Black and allied organizations to dismantle the dangerous narrative being promoted by the FBI. Our communities and movements have a long history of demanding justice and accountability from those who seek to criminalize us. Join us in carrying this work forward — help bring activists face-to-face with Congress, engage lawmakers in putting pressure on the FBI, and mobilize our communities online and off in 2020.

Yes, I will donate $20 today to #ProtectBlackDissent! ([link removed])
In Solidarity,

Myaisha and the rest of Team #MediaJustice
