Friend,
Yesterday, the House passed the Inflation Reduction Act, sending this legislation to President Biden’s desk for his signature.
With your help, we fought alongside a powerful, multi-generational coalition to demand climate action and relief for working families. As congressional negotiations continued for well over a year, we didn’t let momentary setbacks deter us from fighting for what’s right. Yesterday, that hard work and determination paid off.
Despite their best efforts, corporate interests and big polluters couldn’t beat us. Even without support from a single Republican in Congress, we passed the most significant climate legislation in U.S. history. That’s the power of youth organizing.
Take action: Join us in fighting for change by signing up to volunteer with us.
President Biden and Democratic leaders in Congress have delivered a major accomplishment for the American people despite relentless obstruction by Republican politicians. They listened to our voices and achieved what many thought was impossible.
Once signed into law, the Inflation Reduction Act will:
- Make the largest investment in climate action in U.S. history;
- Put our nation on track to cut 40% of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030;
- Create 9 million good-paying clean energy jobs;
- Reduce energy bills for working families across the country;
- Lower health care premiums and prescription drug costs for million of Americans;
- Ensure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share
This moment is the culmination of many years of work across the movement — and it wouldn’t have been possible without activists, volunteers, and voters from every corner of this nation.
After decades of inaction, pressure from young people was crucial to get this historic legislation across the finish line. But we know that this is only the beginning, and more must be done to address the needs of frontline communities, working families, and future generations. Rest assured, we’re just getting started — but we need your help.
Thank you,
NextGen America
