Midwife files lawsuit over Georgia’s censorship of her profession

From the time she began attending births in 1970, Debbie Pulley has become one of the most qualified midwives in Georgia.

But according to the state Board of Nursing, Debbie can’t call herself a midwife unless she becomes a full-fledged licensed nurse. The board even sent Debbie a cease and desist order and threatened her with a $500 fine each time she publicly describes herself as a midwife.

Government can’t prohibit truthful speech about professional qualifications and experience. So, Debbie is fighting back.
