This should concern all Americans, John. |

On Thursday, an insurrectionist with body armor and an assault rifle attempted to breach the FBI’s Cincinnati office. Highways were shut down amid a standoff with law enforcement. This attack comes on the heels of the FBI’s warnings that online threats against federal law enforcement were “deplorable and dangerous.”
John, we must address what contributes to armed extremism like this.
We know that easy access to firearms fuels America’s gun violence epidemic. And when states, like Ohio, have weak gun laws, it's made easy for those intent on doing harm to legally purchase firearms, like assault rifles, and wreak havoc in our communities. When easy access to firearms mixes with Second Amendment extremism, it’s a recipe for disaster.
For decades, the NRA and the gun lobby have emboldened vigilantes to take violent action against our institutions and public officials. We’ve witnessed this play out in real-time over the past two years with armed intimidation at polling places, attempted kidnappings of elected officials, and the January 6 attack — each fueled, in part, by Second Amendment extremism, mitigated by America’s lax gun laws and an ever-growing white supremacist movement.
We cannot let the gun lobby continue to foment Second Amendment extremism that threatens our safety and democracy. Already, 1 in 3 Americans thinks violence against the government can be justified. If we don’t address this alarming trend now, we could see more violence and attacks.
That’s why Brady is launching a full-court press to push back on Second Amendment extremism in America. But we need your help, friend. Will you sign our petition and demand your elected officials take steps to combat this rising threat? |
Thank you for taking action alongside Brady. In solidarity, Team Brady |
VICTORY: Brady’s Safe Gun Storage Bill Advances to Gov. Newsom for His Signature!
BIG news, John! This week, the California legislature passed AB 452 — legislation that will require California public schools to notify parents about the state’s safe firearm storage law. This legislation heads to Gov. Newsom, who is expected to sign it into law. This legislation will save lives. Every day, eight children and teens are unintentionally injured or killed due to an unlocked or unsupervised gun in the home — also known as “family fire.” This legislation will prevent family fire by informing parents and guardians about how they can safely store their firearms — locked, unloaded, and separate from ammunition.
This major victory would not have been possible without years of local activism by Brady California. For the past decade, Brady leaders and gun violence survivors worked with school leaders across the state to distribute educational information about safe gun storage. Their grassroots efforts culminated in this legislation, which we’ve spent the past three years making into a reality. |
Brady Vice President of Policy Christian Heyne, bill sponsor Assemblymember Friedman, and Senior Counsel and Director of State and Federal Policy Tanya Schardt (l-r) |
We thank Assemblymember Friedman for championing this bill and our Brady California activists who helped lead its passage. With their help, we drove over 3,700 messages to lawmakers in support of this life-saving legislation. Please join us in celebrating this major victory in protecting children from gun violence! |

Episode 197: The Minds of Mass Shooters
There have been 178 mass shootings since Memorial Day 2022. And as public fear increases, so does misinformation and myth about mass murderers and mass shootings. To cut through the noise, and learn what may drive mass shooters, we're joined by Dr. P Shavaun Scott, a clinically licensed psychotherapist who has spent the last 30 years studying, and working with, victims and perpetrators of violent crime. We discuss Dr. Scott's most recent book, the pathways people follow to violence, and how we can all combat shootings before they happen.

Episode 198: Alex Jones, Sandy Hook “Deniers,” and Why it Matters
Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is in the news again — this time as he sits in court for the first of three defamation damages cases. The cases have been brought against Jones by some families who lost children and loved ones in the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting. Within hours of the shooting, Jones went on-air and declared it a hoax, a "false flag" meant to attack the Second Amendment, and more. These lies led to survivors and victims' families suffering additional trauma. In this minisode, we break down why this case matters to gun violence prevention advocates and where we go from here with conspiracy theorists and misinformation.

This week, Washington, D.C., Attorney General Karl Racine won a $4 million lawsuit against Polymer80 — the largest manufacturer of homemade ‘ghost guns’ in America. AG Racine found that Polymer80 illegally sold its products to nearly 20 residents and made false claims that consumers can own their products in the city.
The proliferation of ghost guns has dire consequences for public safety. Right now, our legal team is suing Polymer80 in neighboring Baltimore for its role in fueling high levels of gun violence in the city. And while we continue to fight for a safer Baltimore, this ruling makes clear that ghost guns have no place in our country.
We thank AG Racine for taking on the gun industry to help protect our communities from senseless violence. |
Thank you for supporting Brady and our work to prevent gun violence and save lives. We rely heavily on the generosity of activists like you to fund our work to create a safer America. If you're in this fight, please join Brady today by making a gift. |
