News from Representative Lauren Underwood

August 12, 2022

Dear Neighbor,

I have fantastic news: The Inflation Reduction Act just passed the House and is headed to the president’s desk. My Health Care Affordability Act, which lowers health care costs for families in northern Illinois and across the country, has been included in this bill!

This is a major victory for 13 million Americans, and families will save an average of $2,400 per year according to the White House.

Since my first day in Congress, it’s been my mission to make high-quality health care affordable and accessible for all Americans. That’s why I introduced the Health Care Affordability Act, which makes tax credits for Health Insurance Marketplace plans more generous and available to more Americans.

My Health Care Affordability Act has led to a record 14.5 million Americans enrolling in Marketplace coverage during the 2022 Open Enrollment period (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services). Now, with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, we can continue this monumental progress.

The Inflation Reduction Act is historic legislation that will:

  • Reduce the cost of health care for millions by extending tax credits from my bill, helping families save an average of $2,400 in premium costs per year.
  • Lower prescription drug prices for seniors by allowing Medicare to negotiate drug pricing.
  • Combat the climate crisis and create good-paying jobs, lower energy costs, and put us on track to reduce our emissions by 40% by 2030 (Senate Democrats).
  • Make corporations pay their fair share to reduce the deficit and drive down inflation.

Do you support the Inflation Reduction Act?

Thanks for your feedback! I will continue my work to lower costs and fight inflation for you, your family, and communities across the country.

Sincerely,
