One week has passed.

Last Friday's violent events at Naval Air Station Pensacola are heart wrenching.

Those junior officers and airmen were never expecting the unthinkable to occur.

NAS Pensacola is the Cradle of Naval Aviation.  It is home to the Blue Angels.  It was where I earned my wings as a Naval Flight Officer.  It is a cornerstone of our community here in Pensacola.  We will need time to process this tragedy, but as we do, we should praise the swift actions of our local and federal first responders. The Naval Aviation community is strong, and they are supported by all of us here in Pensacola.

I am disturbed and saddened by this horrible tragedy.  As the investigation continues, please remember the victims, their families, and our first responders.

To honor the victims, the U.S. Navy has posthumously awarded Wings of Gold to the three heroes.

Joshua K. Watson, Naval Aviator
Mohammed S. Haitham, Naval Aircrewman
Cameron S. Walters, Naval Aircrewman

One week has passed, but we will remember their names.

Fair winds and following seas, shipmates and airmen. We have the watch.
