Dear John,
I’m greeting you from back in DC with some exciting news. Today, my House colleagues and I voted to pass the historic Inflation Reduction Act, which will make huge investments in lowering the cost of health care, capping the out-of-pocket cost of insulin for seniors, investing in renewable energy and biofuels infrastructure and so much more. Here are just a few of the highlights:
- This bill includes my $35 cap on the out-of-pocket cost of insulin for Medicare patients.
- Medicare will now be able to negotiate the price of certain prescription drugs – meaning lower drug costs for Medicare patients.
- The bill caps senior drug costs at $2,000 annually and extends the ACA tax credits.
- This bill makes the single largest investment in renewable energy in history, with a target of American energy independence and a 40% reduction in carbon emissions over the next decade.
It does all that – while lowering the deficit!
This bill is a big deal, and I am so proud we got it over the finish line. My No. 1 priority since being elected to Congress has been to lower the cost of health care, and this bill will do exactly that. The investments in clean energy and clean energy jobs will bolster our economy and aid in tackling the climate crisis. Did I mention it will also help lower the deficit? That’s right. Truly a win-win-win.

Helping my Constituents
This week, my team and I got to meet with some of the constituents we have helped. My casework team is amazing. Since I have been in Congress, they have helped return over $2 million to constituents across MN02! These constituents have had trouble accessing reliable, accurate services from our federal government agencies – and my team stepped in to help. I promise to continue working to reform Washington to put my constituents first.
Celebrating Investments in American Manufacturing
This week, the President signed the CHIPS and Science Act into law –officially making historic investments in American manufacturing and strengthening our supply chains. So great to get this done!
Supporting Public Safety
Providing local public law enforcement with the resources they need is one of the ways I’m fighting at the federal level to keep our communities safer. I’m glad my staff was able to attend the groundbreaking of the Rice County Public Safety Center to see those investments in action.

The Inflation Reduction Act is historic legislation that will impact lives and lower costs. I’m proud to have championed so many of the health care aspects of this bill alongside so many of my Energy and Commerce colleagues in Congress.
I’m also proud of the fact that this bill seeks American energy independence with a focus on clean and renewable energy. I take this vote today on behalf of this little guy, my grandson Noah, and for you, your kids and grandchildren.
