Dear friends,
Huge news out of Sacramento: Five of our priority bills made it to the floor!
That means it’s time to open the floodgates and mobilize the YIMBY network in support of these bills before the legislature adjourns on August 31 – starting with the State Senate.
Will you send an email to your State Senator in support of AB 2097 (ending parking mandates), AB 2011 (housing in commercial zones), and AB 2873 (diversity in contracting)?
Let's get loud »
Your State Senator will be voting on all three of these bills very soon – and they need to hear from constituents like you who demand they act to solve California’s affordability crisis.
Individually, each of these bills will help us build a more affordable, inclusive California. Taken together these bills represent a transformative change for California.
AB 2011 (Wicks) fast-tracks new affordable housing on land zoned for commercial uses, and includes strong provisions for affordability, labor standards, and environmental protection. Recent analysis suggests this bill would enable as many as 2 million affordable homes in Santa Clara and Los Angeles counties alone.
Ab 2097 (Friedman) will reduce housing costs and slash climate and air pollution by eliminating expensive parking mandates on new homes built near high-quality transit. Studies show parking mandates can add $40,000 or more per parking spot to new projects, driving up the cost of housing.
AB 2873 (Jones-Sawyer) advances diversity, equity, and inclusion by requiring developers that receive state affordable housing dollars to report if the firms they contract with are owned and operated by people of color, women, or LGBTQ+ people. By better tracking diversity in contracting, we can build a more inclusive state while we solve California’s housing shortage.
Constituent calls and e-mails to elected officials are always valuable, and their impact is greatest when a bill is ready for a floor vote. A final vote on these bills could happen as soon as next week, and your voice could help play a decisive role in convincing your State Senator to support their passage.
, if you’re excited about ending California’s affordability crisis and bringing down the cost of homes, now is the time to raise your voice in support of these critical bills.

Thank you so much for your advocacy, energy, and passion.
Together, we will end California’s housing shortage.
Gratefully,
Matthew
