Today the Democrats’ passed their $700 billion “Inflation Reduction Act,” which will do nothing to fight inflation or lower costs. August 12, 2022 Dear John, Today, Democrats passed their "Inflation Reduction Act," a massive tax-and-spend package that won't reduce inflation, but will raise taxes and grow the unelected and unaccountable federal bureaucracy in Washington, D.C. I voted NO to stop the stop more of the reckless policies that caused this inflation in the first place. Meanwhile, the Chinese Communist Party continues to pose a grave threat to our democratic ally, Taiwan. I'm calling on Speaker Pelosi to prioritize my bill to stand with Taiwan. Finally, I toured the Southern Border this week, and I was deeply troubled by what I saw. Read on to learn about all this and more. More Spending, More Taxes, More Bureaucracy Today the Democrats’ passed their $700 billion “Inflation Reduction Act,” which will do nothing to fight inflation or lower costs. Instead of getting serious about the highest prices we’ve seen in more than 40 years, Democrats in Washington have decided to raise taxes, expand the IRS, stifle drug innovation, and hurt Medicare beneficiaries. As a tax fighter, I won’t support any legislation that raises taxes and uses those tax dollars to hire even more D.C. bureaucrats to target hard working families and small businesses. We need to cut federal spending and get costs under control instead of expecting American families to foot the bill for Washington’s spending addiction. That's why I voted no on today's legislation. Darrel Issa (R-CA) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) agents at the southern border near San Diego to view the ongoing humanitarian and national security crisis that has seen the record-setting influx of migrants over the last 18 months. The tour took place on the same day the Biden Administration terminated the Remain in Mexico Policy, which required illegal immigrants awaiting asylum claims in the U.S. to stay in Mexico until their cases are adjudicated. The reality at our southern border is a shocking and deeply troubling humanitarian and national security crisis. Not only are sections of our border wide open to anyone who wants to cross - whether they are legitimate asylum seekers, violent drug cartels, human traffickers, or terrorists - but our border patrol faces a devastating lack of support from Washington, D.C. From halting construction of the border wall to terminating Title 42 and Remain in Mexico, this Administration’s policies have directly contributed to the suffering occurring on our southern border. The President must immediately restore operational control, commit to providing our CBP agents with the resources they need to do their jobs, and complete the process of physically securing our border. I visited Dieu Ngu Temple to commemorate the Vu Lan festival and present a certificate of Congressional Recognition of this special day. Vu Lan is a time to commemorate our ancestors, honor our elders, and teach our children about the importance of valuing tradition and heritage. I was honored to be a part of this important day and beautiful ceremony. Intern in My Huntington Beach or D.C. Office! Learn More and Apply The Time to Stand With Taiwan is Now In response to escalating hostility from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) towards Taiwan in recent weeks, I introduced the bicameral, bipartisan Taiwan Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) to authorize the Administration to lend or lease defense supplies to the Government of Taiwan in the event of an invasion by the CCP. The time to stand with Taiwan is now, not after a CCP invasion. That's why this week, I led a bipartisan group of members of the House of Representatives to send a letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Leadership calling on them to bring up this critical legislation for a floor vote immediately. Read the Full Letter on My Website I spoke with Taiwanese legislator Ker Chien-ming to discuss my bill, the Taiwan Democracy Defense Lend-Lease Act, and how the United States can stand with Taiwan to ensure that the CCP does not commit further acts of aggression towards our democratic ally.
