Dear Texan,

I had a busy week back home in Texas, so I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on what’s happening in the U.S. House and Texas’ 31st district.
ON THE DOCKET:

  • Tour with military leaders at Ft. Hood
  • The Schumer-Manchin Inflation Reduction Act
  • Samsung Austin Semiconductor Visit
  • July Constituent Services Update
THE BRIEF:

  • Real wages are down 4.4% and inflation remains high at 8.5% increase since this time last year.
  • There have now been over 500,000 known “got-aways” at our southern border since the beginning of FY2022 in October.
  • As students head back to school, Texas faces a severe teacher shortage.
Representative Carter visits training facilities at Ft. Hood.
TOUR WITH MILITARY LEADERS AT FT. HOOD
This week, I visited Ft. Hood to tour the state-of-the-art facilities that were made possible through my appropriations bill. Last year, I worked to secure $285 million to continue to bring improvements and advancements to "The Great Place." As the top Republican on the Military Construction Appropriations Committee and a member of the Defense Appropriations Committee, I stay in close contact with military leadership on a regular basis. Visits like these allow me to hear from our service members to ensure that American’s hard-earned tax dollars are being used efficiently and our troops have what they need to keep our nation safe.
SCHUMER-MANCHIN INFLATION REDUCTION ACT
Americans are facing the highest inflation in 40 years. Today, Democrats brought the Inflation Reduction Act to the House for a vote. Unfortunately, this bill does nothing to address the skyrocketing inflation Americans face daily. In fact, this bill raises taxes on businesses as Americans are already paying more for almost everything, cuts jobs, reduces lifesaving health care innovation, hurts American energy producers, wastes money on supersizing the IRS, and worsens our inflation crisis. Inflation is a tax on all Americans – I will not support a bill that will make the challenges Americans are already facing worse.
Congressman Carter tours and is updated about progress on the Samsung facility being built in Taylor.
SAMSUNG AUSTIN SEMICONDUCTOR VISIT
I recently visited the new Samsung site in Taylor. This new site will be the largest facility Samsung has built in the United States. Samsung will invest billions in the Taylor facility and that investment brings new jobs, strengthens our economy, and brings continued growth to TX-31.
JULY CONSTITUENT SERVICES UPDATE
As your representative, one of the most important parts of my job is helping my constituents with issues related to federal agencies. In July, my office assisted 418 Central Texas families, returned over $261,310 to constituents, and responded to 3,832 constituent comments.

I am here to serve my constituents! If you need assistance with a federal agency, need help booking tours in Washington, DC, or would like to share your thoughts on an issue, please visit carter.house.gov
As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates.

It is an honor and privilege to represent you and Texas in the United States House.
Sincerely,
John R. Carter
