John, the House
just passed the Inflation Reduction Act, a historic bill that will address
climate change and lower costs for families. Now, the bill heads to
President Biden for his signature.

This is fiscally responsible legislation that will save taxpayers money
while ensuring the largest, most profitable corporations pay their fair
share of taxes.

Here are a few pieces of legislation I’ve been advocating for that are
included in this bill:

* Raising fees on polluters: Taxpayers shouldn’t subsidize Big Oil. This
bill will raise the royalty and rental rates oil companies pay the
government. These rates hadn’t been updated in decades, and this will
ensure Big Oil pays a more fair price.

* Allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices: Right now,
Medicare isn’t legally allowed to negotiate the price of prescription
drugs. This bill will save taxpayers money by allowing Medicare to do
so.

* Allowing the IRS to hold tax-cheating corporations accountable: This
funding for the IRS is good for taxpayers who need a faster refund or
have a question about their taxes, and will allow the IRS to hold
corporations and the ultra-wealthy accountable when they evade taxes.

Along with all of this, the bill will invest in clean energy and electric
vehicles, reduce the cost of Affordable Care Act healthcare premiums for
millions of Americans, and ensure corporations making over $1 billion a
year pay their fair share of taxes.

There’s still work to be done, but this bill is an important and fiscally
responsible step in the right direction. I’m so grateful for your support
as I run for re-election–our ability to build on this progress is on the
ballot this November.
