Please read below for some updates on my recent work representing you in Washington, D.C. and back home in TX-23. Met Del Rio's Newest Class of Future Police Officers On Monday, I had the privilege of meeting with the Del Rio Chief of Police, Frank Ramirez. During my visit, I was introduced to a new class of future police officers. It is truly inspiring to see the next generation of heroes who do outstanding work to protect our communities every day. Supporting Blue Collar Jobs in TX-23 I began Tuesday morning with a visit to the CRH Asphalt Site where I met with leadership from the Texas Materials Group. We discussed the important work they do to supply Texas with high quality asphalt for building lasting roadways, and the high number of blue-collar jobs they provide throughout the state. Discussing School Safety Measures On Tuesday afternoon, I sat down with Northside ISD Superintendent Dr. Brian Woods to discuss school safety for the upcoming year. We also talked about ways I can help secure future federal dollars to support Texas schools through my role on the Appropriations Committee. Learned About Medical Services at the South Texas Rural Health Clinic in Devine Providing access to mental health services in rural communities remains a top priority of mine in Congress. I visited the South Texas Rural Health Clinic in Devine to learn more about the health services they offer, especially mental health, for the community and surrounding areas. I applaud them for their incredible work to serve our community. Talking Labor and Supply Shortages in Hondo Labor shortages are affecting local businesses across our district. On Tuesday afternoon, Brendon Lowe led me on a tour of the Mumme's feed store where they are experiencing the firsthand effects of these labor and supply shortages. During my visit, I also learned about their large grain and feed operation that provides resources to producers across the region. Improving Medical and Mental Health Resources for Veterans and Students Across Texas On Wednesday, I toured the UT Health San Antonio Barshop Institute labs where they are researching important medical issues such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, & PTSD. Specifically, these researchers are working to improve mental health services for veterans and students throughout San Antonio, Texas, and the United States. Secured $3 Million for Constituents Through 2022 Casework I am proud to announce that my office has so far returned $3,004,347 from the federal government to constituents through our casework process in 2022. My number one priority in Congress is ensuring the federal government is working for you. From tax returns to help with the VA, my team works hard to deliver lasting results.
