John, as a physician, I have seen this firsthand: Black moms are 3-4 times more likely to die in childbirth than white moms and more likely to suffer complications.

Racial gaps in income, housing, access to insurance, and education can all play a role, but bias within healthcare settings can affect Black birthing people across income and education levels. Symptoms may be ignored, tests and procedures skipped, and hospitals serving Black communities can be deeply underfunded.

After witnessing the disparities in labor and delivery rooms, I stepped up to become a part of Governor Wolf's Maternal Mortality Review Committee to combat this issue affecting so many. I made Black maternal health a top priority in my campaign, and now, I'm asking Congress to do the same.

Will you join me in demanding action to save the lives of Black moms? Tell Congress to invest in reducing Black maternal mortality now.

The disparities between health outcomes for birth-giving people of color and others go back generations and remain today. There is no reason that giving birth should still remain so deadly for Black moms.

As a physician for over twenty years, I saw firsthand how two patients on the same floor of a hospital might be treated differently just because of their race. We must invest in equity for people of color in all our health care centers. We also must invest more funding into community-based services in Black communities and into research that can help us continue to address this critical issue.

But first, we need to prove to our elected officials that reducing Black maternity mortality should be a priority.

Join me in demanding Congress take action to reduce Black maternity mortality today.
