A North Carolina native, Deb Butler has deep roots in the Tar Heel State. She has represented House District 18 since 2017, and currently serves as the House Democratic Whip, where she pushes forward progressive legislation to fund local food banks, address pandemic-related learning loss, increase the minimum wage, and reduce the barriers to exercising the right to vote.
Her tireless advocacy for such important progressive priorities is why Sister District is proudly supporting her re-election this year.
Look — this race really matters. In 2018, Democrats broke Republican supermajorities in both chambers of the North Carolina legislature. That’s a huge accomplishment that we can only protect and build on if we help folks like Deb Butler win re-election and stay in office.
Plus, as was the case with too many states, we’re fighting against the headwinds of a brutal Republican gerrymander. For reference, in 2018, Democratic candidates for the NC House got 51% of the vote, but only won 45% of the seats.
That’s why we’re working so hard to organize in states like North Carolina, and to re-elect incumbents like Deb Butler — because we need every ally we can find and every advantage we can get if we want to overcome GOP gerrymandering to enact our progressive agenda.
