AUGUST 2022
Dear Friend ,
You’ve attended events, made donations, and dedicated your time to electing pro-Israel candidates – and your support has resulted in primary victories for strong supporters of the U.S.-Israel relationship across the country like Reps. Young Kim, Bill Huizenga, Dina Titus, and Shontel Brown. We’ve toppled candidates supported by J Street in favor of clearly pro-Israel advocates like Rep. Haley Stevens and Glenn Ivey whose electoral victories have made the pro-Israel movement stronger and the U.S.-Israel relationship more secure. Our work, however, is far from complete.
On the legislative front, the Senate will soon take up the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The House-passed version includes the Deterring Enemy Forces and Enabling National Defense (DEFEND) Act, which is an Abraham Accords Caucus-introduced provision that seeks to further strengthen security cooperation among the countries to combat Iranian aggression. I took to my Times of Israel [[link removed]] column to highlight this critical legislation, and why it’s so important that the Senate retain the DEFEND Act in the NDAA.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement as part of our community. As we quickly approach the November general elections and actively combat dangerous anti-Israel rhetoric and attacks on bipartisan support for the U.S.-Israel relationship. Please help us reach even more people by sharing this email with your friends and family and asking them to join Pro-Israel America. [[link removed]]
Best,
Jeff
READ: JNS: “Biden was right to buck J Street’s advice” – “During U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent trip to Israel, he correctly reiterated that American support for Israel is not only in the national and strategic interests of the United States but also a moral calling, rebuking the egregiously out-of-touch recommendations that he received from J Street and the far-left. Instead of isolating and threatening our strategic ally—key pillars of J Street’s ideological agenda—he reinforced our inviolable bond with Israel and made commitments to further build and strengthen partnerships that will expand peace, security and economic opportunities.” READ MORE [[link removed]] from PIA’s Executive Director Jeff Mendelsohn.

READ: Times of Israel: “To Combat Iranian Aggression, Congress Must Swiftly Pass DEFEND Act in the NDAA” – The US House of Representatives recently passed the 2023 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that includes numerous provisions that enhance the US-Israel security relationship, including $500 million for joint US-Israel missile defense programs such as Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and Arrow, $40 million for the US-Israel counter unmanned aerial systems (UAS) program, and a new US-Israel program to combat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The NDAA also includes the Deterring Enemy Forces and Enabling National Defenses (DEFEND) Act, important legislation that will promote US leadership in the region and deter Iranian aggression. With the end of primary season in sight, Pro-Israel America reflects on our key victories in late July and early August to chart out our path to the general election.
RECENT PIA “KEY RACE” VICTORIES
MD-04: PIA-endorsed Glenn Ivey defeated former Congresswoman Donna Edwards – who has been critical of Israel in the past and now her policies will be left in the past – by over 15 percentage points.
MI-11: PIA-endorsed Congresswoman Haley Stevens trounced J Street-supported Andy Levin by 20 percentage points.
WA-04: Congressman Newhouse – a strong supporter of Israel’s right to self-defense – advanced to November’s general election in Washington. We are grateful that we will now be able to continue the pro-Israel advocacy in Congress that he began when first elected in 2014.
