Friend,
One of my proudest moments was seeing my daughter, Ilhan, be sworn in as the first Somali-American member of Congress.
I was overcome with emotions as we came back, hand in hand, to our nation's capital 23 years after we first arrived together from a refugee camp in Kenya. Today, as I read headlines like this, I am again overcome with emotions -- but of a different kind.
The Guardian: "Are the Republicans trying to get Ilhan Omar killed?"
Ilhan has always been courageous. That has made me proud and fearful at times. It was her courage that made her a history-making member of Congress, and now it's her courage that makes her a target as she advocates for our country's most vulnerable citizens and human rights around the world.
When we were at our refugee camp in Kenya, there were times when we did not have access to running water. But we believed in the promise of a better life in America. Even as my daughter faces vile, racist threats against her life from candidates on the right, I still believe the America we hoped for all those years ago is possible.
You've stood with my daughter and her work for a brighter future for all since the beginning. Will you donate whatever you can to her campaign today to show everyone that this movement for progress is stronger than hate? Donate here: [link removed]
I have raised Ilhan to believe in her inner voice, to lead with integrity, and to never allow people to define her. She's held fast to those values even as everyone from the conservative media to the president of the United States has put her life at risk.
Please donate whatever you can today to show the power of her movement for progress. Donate here: [link removed]
Thank you for lifting up not only my daughter, but the vulnerable people in our country and around the world who need our support the most.
Nur Omar Mohamed
