Hi John, This is an emergency. 49 million people around the world are at risk of famine, exacerbated by conflict, the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and soaring food prices. The global food crisis could claim millions of lives and have a devastating impact on the world's most vulnerable populations. But this is not inevitable. Add your voice to our petition urging world leaders to end the hunger crisis by fully funding humanitarian appeals and investing in fair and sustainable global food production. People all over the world are shining a light on the issue of food security and demanding urgent action, so it’s crucial that we keep up the pressure. John, will you add your name to our petition now? Here’s what the petition says:
In the wake of the unprovoked attack on Ukraine, food prices are skyrocketing. Recent droughts in parts of North and East Africa, including in Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan, and a heatwave in India, are also impacting food prices. Additionally, poor harvests and regional conflicts played a role in making 2022 a bad year for food. Nelson Mandela once said that "freedom is meaningless if people cannot put food in their stomachs." Let’s make sure we live up to what he stood for. Together, we can not only stop today’s hunger crisis, but also prevent future ones by tackling the root causes of food insecurity. Thank you, Cody Reuschel, ONE.org |
