This Month's Jobs Postings:

Message from Andrew Weir, Pharmacy Director, Minnesota Veterans Homes

andrew weir

Did you know that the Minnesota Veterans Homes have their own pharmacy? As the Pharmacy Director, I lead a team that provides pharmaceutical services to the more than 600 Residents living in our five Veterans Homes located across the state. We are honored to serve those who have served and support their well-being and comfort.

Our team includes five pharmacists, eight pharmacy technicians, and a reimbursement specialist. We collaborate with prescribers and our nursing staff to ensure that medication use is safe and effective. Most of our pharmacy employees have been employed by MDVA for more than 10 years. It is very rare for a pharmacy to retain employees for that long a period of time and speaks to the positive work culture and job satisfaction of contributing to the mission to serve Veterans and their families.

I?ve been working here since November 2018 but started my career as a community retail pharmacist for four years. I began working as a Long-Term Care (LTC) pharmacist in 2013. Although I enjoyed interacting with patients in a retail setting, I found that providing pharmacy services to LTC Residents very rewarding.

I?m fortunate to work with staff in various departments at the Veterans Homes and Central Office and am always inspired by their commitment to provide quality care and service to the Residents and their families. Having a clear mission and working with so many others who are committed to it makes going to work every day a rewarding experience.

I have found the pay and benefits that MDVA offers comparable to other employers, but the work-life balance is much better.

I encourage you to consider joining the MDVA team, either at our Veterans Homes or in our Programs & Services Division or Central Office. I think you will find it to be a rewarding place to work, too.
