** Gwynne urges Amazon to negotiate fair deal for workers
------------------------------------------------------------

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, has called on Amazon to meet with the GMB union and agree a fair pay deal with staff.

Gwynne’s intervention comes after more than 700 Amazon workers in England walked out two weeks ago in a dispute over pay. The GMB Union has been campaigning for almost a decade for better pay and conditions for Amazon staff, yet have received little or no engagement from the tech giant.

Walkouts occurred after Amazon responded to the cost-of-living crisis by offering workers a 35p pay rise. This would amount to just £10 extra a week, and was roundly criticised by staff and unions as being wholly insufficient.

Commenting, Andrew Gwynne said:

“I find it staggering that a company like Amazon is refusing to engage with unions in agreeing a fair pay deal with staff.

Amazon has a global net worth of $1.6 trillion, and last year generated £4.8bn in turnover in the UK in 2020. For them to pretend that they can’t pay staff properly would be laughable if it wasn’t so infuriating.

Amazon need to meet with GMB representatives, and get a pay deal sorted that reflects the hard work and dedication of staff”

** Gwynne backs UK Parliament Week
------------------------------------------------------------

Andrew Gwynne, MP for Denton and Reddish, is encouraging residents across Denton and Reddish to get involved ahead of UK Parliament Week, taking place from the 14 – 20 November this year.

UK Parliament week is an annual initiative which aims to get people engaged in how Parliament works. Participants who express interest will receive a free kit packed with an activity booklet, a ballot box and more.

Once received, you can pick and choose from the options to tailor your UK Parliament Week activity to suit whatever time you have available and age groups you’re working with.

Last week, more than 1.1 million people took part in the initiative, with local schools, community groups and clubs setting up quizzes, themed assemblies and Q&As with MPs.

Gwynne, a long time supporter of UK Parliament Week, said:

“I’m always proud to support UK Parliament Week. Whenever I show young people around Parliament, I always remind them that Parliament exists to represent people, and whatever work goes on in Westminster is their business.

This is why it’s so important that we get people engaged. It’s vital for a functioning democracy, and means that we make Parliament more accessible and more representative.

I’d encourage any local schools or youth leaders to get involved with UK Parliament Week.”

Andrew in Parliament

Parliament is currently in recess, but today there was a very disappointing statement made by the Government announcing that Evusheld - a pre-exposure prophylaxis designed to protect those acutely vulnerable to Covid-19 - would not be procured for the autumn and winter months.

As a result, Vicky Foxcroft and I have written to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care demanding a full explanation on how the decision was made, and what steps his department will be taking to protect clinically vulnerable, clinically extremely vulnerable and immunosuppressed people moving forward.

** Out on the doorstep in sunny Haughton Green ☀️
------------------------------------------------------------

I had a lovely evening on Thursday with Team Denton South ([link removed]) delivering leaflets in Haughton Green. The village is looking so lovely - especially in the sunshine!

** A delightful deli at Howard's Neighbourhood Bar 🍲
------------------------------------------------------------

In between work, and continuing to empty my Dad's house, Allison ([link removed]) and I dropped into Howard’s Neighbourhood Bar & Deli ([link removed]) on Manchester Road at Crown Point.

They’ve reopened their Deli, which was such a success during lockdown, but this time it’s alongside their amazing bar, meaning you can eat (and drink) in too. Come and support the latest addition to #DestinationDenton ([link removed])

It’s well worth a visit! Good luck Jack and Amy.
