In a moment, I'm going to ask you to chip in $5 to bolster our efforts to keep this seat blue. The dynamics in my race have shifted recently, so I hope you'll let me shed some light on why your support is so urgent. 

Earlier this week, analysts at Inside Elections downgraded our race outlook in IL-17. First, we were listed at "Tilts Democrat." Now, our race against Esther King has slipped back to a pure "Tossup."

A number of factors are playing into this shift, but the biggest consideration by far is Esther King's cash advantage. As it stands, King has $1.8 million in cash reserves, and that's not counting the $2.2 million she's been promised by Kevin McCarthy's super PAC for attacks against me. 

Here’s my take:

I don't believe for a second that this race will come down to  money. If we stay laser-focused on local issues and build the largest grassroots team, we will prevail. But I’m not naive, friend. With the majority at stake, this will be a very competitive race. We can’t risk being out-spent by a super PAC attacking our campaign -- which is I need to ask:

We set an end-of-week goal of $25,000 to pick up the pace and regain the lead. Will you rush in $5 to help us defeat Esther King and keep this seat blue?
