John, just a week ago, Kansas voters showed us that folks are ready to fight for reproductive rights, even in states that pundits have written off as impenetrable GOP strongholds.
The vote in Kansas was an incredible victory for abortion access and showed what is possible when folks take action. Now, we need voters all across the country to bring that same heart and spirit to the ballot boxes in November.
You see, the only way to truly restore reproductive freedom for all Americans is by expanding our Senate majority so that we can finally codify Roe v. Wade.
If we don't take federal action to defend our right to choose, our country will continue down this dark path and cede more and more of Americans' remaining freedoms. Experts are warning that if abortion access is left to the states, legislators in states like mine could move to outlaw abortion care entirely, ban interstate travel for abortions, restrict birth control access, and criminalize the very act of seeking information about abortions.
And if we let the GOP take back the Senate, conservative senators could even pass a nationwide abortion ban – outlawing abortion in all 50 states in one fell swoop. Make no mistake: If Eric Schmitt or John Wood win in November, they would help make this happen.
A clear majority of Americans support legal access to abortion. We have to fight for them. This November, we must expand our Senate majority by electing Democratic leaders who will protect reproductive freedom. We can do that right here in Missouri, but only if grassroots activists like you stand with me: Please, can you pitch in $5 tonight to send an unapologetically pro-choice leader to Washington? You have my word that I'll be the 51st vote that we need to finally codify Roe v. Wade.
