Here’s the situation, friend, FIRST: Multiple alarming studies found that titanium dioxide can break DNA strands and cause chromosomal damage. THEN: Based on a comprehensive review of the scientific literature, the EU decided to BAN titanium dioxide from use as a food additive earlier this year! NOW: Mars is facing a class-action lawsuit alleging its use of titanium dioxide in Skittles makes its product “unfit for human consumption” – yet it continues to add the chemical to these candies every day! |

Despite years of scientists ringing alarm bells about the potential health risks of titanium dioxide, including possible endocrine disruption, immunotoxicity, neurotoxicity and greater risk of cancer, U.S. regulators have remained negligent. The FDA hasn’t even reviewed new science on the chemical since 1966. Ridiculous! It’s clear we can’t count on government agencies to put guardrails up against these multibillion-dollar companies. So EWG is going directly to the source, demanding major sweet makers ensure their U.S. products no longer contain titanium dioxide, just like their products in the EU! Please take action with us, team, and add your name to our petition. >> |

An EWG analysis has found titanium dioxide in over 3,000 products, including M&M’s, Starburst, Hostess Cupcakes and Twinkies. Many of these products are primarily marketed to and consumed by children. Evidence shows kids are at much higher risk of DNA damage and carcinogenicity from toxic additives, given that these early exposures build up in the bloodstream over time.
