Save the Date for the Global Climate Strike with a bit of Civil Disco-Bedience during the Climate Strike on Sept 23rd!
Good Morning Fellow Climate Activists,
On Friday, September 23rd, a growing coalition of 350 groups, climate, environmental, youth, social and environmental justice organizations will gather to tell the Federal Reserve, Chase and BP to halt the financing, extraction and burning of fossil fuels. This event will be in full collaboration with youth groups Fridays for Future and the Chicago Youth Climate Coalition.
We will march and stop at all 3 of these buildings downtown, perform a little Civil Discobedience to Staying Alive, have a die-in and dance some more to I Will Survive, to raise awareness to the public and call on the following institutions to act.
We demand that the,
Federal Reserve System - regulate fossil fuel financing in the US and promote investment in sustainable solutions and underserved communities
Chase Bank - end financing to fossil fuel infrastructure and extraction and expand investment in sustainable solutions
BP - live up to your name of "Beyond Petroleum" and end fossil fuel extraction and pipeline activities
We do have several roles needing to be filled during the event. We need people who feel comfortable speaking or being a chant leader, safety marshalls, people to hold banners, people to dance in the Civil Discobedience to Staying Alive and I Will Survive, a spokesperson to potentially talk with media, photographers, people to do press outreach, people to live tweet and someone to Livestream the event.
If you would like to volunteer for a role, please email me with your desired role.
There will be other tasks to be performed as well in the preparation of the event. We can use all the help in making this event a success. We will have an art build. So, if you have an artistic side, please be ready to wield your paint brushes.
If you would like to participate in the planning, you may attend our Thursday evening meetings via this recurring Zoom link here. We will meet next on Tuesday, August 23rd at 7 PM.
